We, the members of the Blenman Elm Neighborhood Association Board, ask you to vote YES on Questions 1 and 2.
As central city residents, we feel very strongly that we need to improve our transportation system NOW.
This plan will make badly needed upgrades to our roads, improving intersections throughout the region to remove bottlenecks and reduce the pollution from cars idling at signals.
This plan will revolutionize public transit with $450 million in bus improvements–cutting wait times in half and extending hours of operation past midnight. A forward-thinking high-capacity central-city circulator–the modern streetcar–will reduce congestion, increase our property values, and reduce the need for road widenings in our part of town. New express buses will run throughout the region so we can get to other parts of town via transit.
This plan will improve Grant Road, which borders directly on our neighborhood. This is good for motorists AND for neighbors and local businesses. Grant today is dangerous for pedestrians (two children have died on Grant in the last few years), has major drainage problems, and exhibits urban decay.
This plan will help us make Grant a street we can be proud to live next to: a safe street with pedestrian refuges on medians, pedestrian crossings every quarter mile, and bike lanes; a vibrant street with residential, retail, office, and restaurant development, excellent landscaping, and preservation of local small businesses.
This plan requires that each road project be designed in collaboration with the neighbors and businesses most affected by that project. We CAN have the roads we want–this process is built into the legislation.
We have finally come together as a region with a plan that works for all of us. We the members of the Blenman Elm Neighborhood Association Board urge you to vote YES on Questions 1 and 2.
