On May 16 we will have the opportunity to make our communities safer and healthier. We ask you to please vote “YES” for the Transportation Plan and the 1/2 cent-sales tax to fund the much needed transportation improvements for the entire Pima County region.

The Transportation Plan includes many safety improvements that will make our region a safer place to travel and live. The safety improvements to our county’s roads, walking paths, intersections and sidewalks will reduce the chance of being killed or seriously injured while driving or walking in Pima County. More than 10 percent of all traffic deaths in Arizona happen in Pima County. In 2005, 14 pedestrians were killed in traffic related deaths in Tucson alone.

The projects in the Transportation Plan will also improve our quality of life in Pima County. Adding bike paths and pedestrian walkways will promote active, healthy lifestyles. Adding more options for public transit will cut down on traffic and make our air quality better. Improvements to greenways and critical wildlife linkages will help us preserve the natural beauty of the Sonora Desert.

The addition of thousands of hours of new transit service each year will make it easier for those who can’t drive themselves to get to work, the store and to medical appointments.

Our region is expected to continue to grow. However, we get to decide what kind of a community we will become. For an investment in the safety, health, and the quality of life for our entire region, we ask that you join us in supporting the Transportation Plan. Please vote “YES” on Questions 1 and 2 on May 16.
