Resolution
Whereas, Pima Community College students, faculty and staff travel regularly to and from six campuses and other College sites, and
Whereas, Pima County is projecting a 94% increase in vehicle miles traveled in the next 20 years, and
Whereas, travel congestion is expected to increase by 336% during that time, resulting in large amounts of wasted time, money and fuel for College students, faculty and staff, and
Whereas the region is short $4 billion needed to fix transportation issues over the next 20 years, and state law limits funding options, and
Whereas, the Regional Transportation Authority has a plan to reduce traffic congestion and encourage alternative methods of travel, and
Whereas, a half cent countywide sales tax referendum will be presented in May to voters, and if approved, the tax will alleviate transportation problems, and
Whereas, the tax will not affect the cost of groceries or medicines, and will in the long term benefit students,
Now therefore, the Pima County Community College District Board of Governors encourages voters to approve the Regional Transportation Plan Sales Tax.
