Your “Yes” vote for Questions 1 and 2 can help us save lives.
Already ambulances and fire trucks in Tucson are dangerously delayed by traffic. The National Fire Protection Association standard calls for emergency vehicles to respond in four minutes or less 90 percent of the time. In Tucson, ambulances reach this goal only 60 percent of the time. Traffic is the number one reason emergency vehicles are delayed in Tucson.
In a recent study, Tucson ranked fourth worst among 30 medium-sized cities for congestion related delays. It’s only going to get worse if we don’t do anything now.
For the safety and health of our community, we must take steps to improve traffic flow in our city and region. Pima County is expected to grow to 1.3 million residents within the next 20 years—an increase of 54 percent since the 2000 census. We can’t stop that, but we can take responsible steps as a community to make this a safer place to live for all of us.
Two improvements in the Transportation Plan that will directly influence our ability to get to the scene of an emergency are 1.) Improved traffic signal coordination and 2.) The widening of key east/west and north/south roadways.
Minutes make all the difference sometimes between life and death. In fact, each minute longer that it takes us to arrive on the scene decreases a person with critical injuries chances of survival by 10 percent.
The life you help save by making our community safer may just be your own or someone you love.
Please, help us to serve you and save lives by voting “Yes” for Questions 1 and 2.
