Why Vote Yes?

Help us make our community a better place for all of us. We need to take action NOW to fix today’s problems. Vote yes – twice – on ballot questions 1 and 2 on May 16. Both must pass.

Passing the Regional Transportation Plan and funding source is an investment in ourselves.

  • Better health
  • Safety
  • Less time wasted
  • Lower costs for transportation
  • More jobs

It’s a vital first step to fixing today’s transportation problems for the whole region.

  • Truly a regional approach
  • Balanced – by mode, between urban and suburban areas, to serve mobility needs, geographically
  • We all agree we have a problem today. But it’s only going to get worse.
  • And it will cost all of us more
  • Traffic congestion costs as much as $3,000 per year for the average family.
  • Rush hour time in transit has doubled since 1982 – today’s delays waste 36 hours per year PER PERSON
  • The Regional Transportation Plan will be in addition to – not in place of – local government’s ongoing maintenance and improvement projects and state projects such as I-10 improvements.

The sales tax is our only option and it’s the most cost effective use of limited dollars

  • The only revenue that can be used for transit
  • Pima County is only one in Arizona without those funds for transportation.
  • Pima County has the lowest average sales tax of any county in the state.
  • Maricopa County has just renewed its sales tax for 20 more years
  • We’re on the verge of having WORSE congestion than Phoenix.
  • Sales tax is most equitable funding (cost shared by residents and visitors)
    • Best way to fund
    • As much as 20 percent of sales tax paid by non-residents spending money here.
    • A third of the tax will be paid by governments and businesses
    • No sales tax on basic needs: groceries, prescription drugs, housing, transit
    • Will cost the average household just 18 cents per day. Isn’t that worth every penny?

This plan was created by your neighbors.

  • Very diverse group strongly behind it
  • Open, public meetings with input from all
  • Prioritized best options to benefit the most
  • Unheard-of regional cooperation never seen before
  • Unanimous endorsement by every jurisdiction
