Steve Christy’s Star Streetcar OpEd
February 11th, 2006
The Star today published an opinion article by Steve Christy (Chrysler/Jeep dealer and Citizen Advisory Committee member) laying out the facts of why the Modern Streetcar, while only 4% of the total RTA plan, is vitally important to our regional transportation system.
Besides laying out information on how many people it will serve, the congestion it will ease, and the economic activity it will inspire, he attacks critics head on with this paragraph:
Yes, the modern streetcar system will cost big bucks up front. But so does starting a business, going to college or buying a house. All of these are long-term investments with long-term benefits. If someone came to you and said, “I’ll pay for half of your college education if you commit to paying the rest,” would it be worth it? Of course.
