Building a safer Grant Road

February 19th, 2006

The Star today reports police data from early last year that shows “at least nine pedestrians, including one who died, were struck along little more than a mile of East Grant Road.” The RTA plan includes significant funding to rebuild Grant to modern safety standards, including that dangerous mile between Country Club and Alvernon.

The RTA project will improve crosstown mobility for motorists, improve drainage, and increase safety and beauty and value for neighboring residents and businesses–the folks who, by law, will help to design the road. Pedestrian crossings, medians for pedestrian refuge, and the removal of safety hazards will make Grant a road we can proud both to live near and to drive on.

We can fund it now by voting Yes on Questions 1 and 2, before more people are hurt or killed.
